Tropex, Florida’s premier plant leasing and maintenance company, is looking for a dedicated and passionate Greenhouse Assistant to join our team. This role is crucial in maintaining the health and beauty of our plants, ensuring they are ready to enhance various spaces across Florida. Key Responsibilities
As a Greenhouse Assistant, you will be immersed in the daily care and maintenance of our greenhouse plants. Your responsibilities will include:
- Plant Care Excellence: Daily maintenance of our greenhouses, including trimming, pruning, fertilizing, weeding, and cleaning. You’ll play a vital role in transplanting (repotting) plants to ensure their optimal growth.
- Quality Control: Upon receiving plant deliveries from growers, you’ll be responsible for unloading and checking the quantity, size, and type of plants against delivery orders. This includes removing sleeves, checking for pests and diseases, and installing bar codes.
- Irrigation Management: Monitoring and maintaining irrigation emitters and notifying supervisors of any system issues.
- Preparation for Dispatch: Processing technician plant requisitions, preparing plants for installations, and ensuring they are staged, mossed, and watered as necessary.
- Loading and Transporting: Loading plants, containers, and supplies onto trucks, ensuring careful handling to prevent damage.
- Greenhouse Upkeep: Final cleaning tasks, sweeping floors, walkways, and maintaining the cleanliness of surrounding areas.
- Plant Health Monitoring: Identifying plants, pests, and diseases and treating them accordingly. This includes hand watering plants not on irrigation systems.
- Supporting Various Functions: Assisting in installations, short-term rentals, and plant sales preparations, ensuring readiness for various services offered by Tropex.
What We Require
- Physical Fitness: The role is physically demanding, requiring the ability to lift up to 50lbs regularly and perform various physical activities like standing, stooping, bending, and climbing ladders.
- Adaptability to Environments: Comfort working in diverse environmental conditions – cold, hot, wet, and humid.
- Tools Proficiency: Ability to use essential tools such as shovels, shears, rakes, hand and power sprayers effectively.
- Non-Smoker: A commitment to a smoke-free environment.
- Clean Driving Record: A clean driving record in the State of Florida for at least 3 years.
- Computer Skills: Basic computer proficiency with the potential to learn advanced skills.
